A propane shortage has caused Gov. Phil Murphy to declare a state of emergency resulting in an increased maximum driving time for drivers who carry propane.
The state of emergency will go into effect at 9 a.m. on Dec. 12 and remain in effect until further notice.
“I am declaring a State of Emergency to ensure that the approximately 186,000 New Jerseyans who rely on propane for home heating purposes can receive it without interruption. This Executive Order expands delivery capabilities to keep homes heated and families secure,” said Murphy in his state release.
On Nov. 21, a power outage occurred at an industrial complex in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania that produces propane, officials said. The gas refinery is currently only open at an “intermittent basis.”
