Bands won’t play at Portland high school football games this season as music directors protest pay

At high school football games throughout the Portland Interscholastic League this fall, the band will not play on.

Band directors from almost all of the city’s high schools say they won’t oversee performances at games this fall, or at basketball games this winter, after years of an opaque tug-of-war over their pay schedule for outside-of-class duties between the school district and the Portland Association of Teachers.
