RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — COVID-19 is making its yearly comeback in Raleigh. However, doctors said it is not the only virus floating around making people sick.

Since beginning of September, WakeMed has seen more than 300 positive COVID-19 cases and 6 positive cases for the flu.

Dr. Christopher Chao said the virus has mutated a lot since it first emerged in 2020, and the strain most people are seeing now is a much less dangerous version.

"It is a much milder form and causes milder illnesses, and fortunately, we are not seeing hospitalizations or severe disease," said Dr. Chao, medical director at WakeMed.

However, the biggest misconception right now is when folks say to themselves, "I’m feeling under the weather but I don't have the flu or COVID-19, so I’m free to go out in big crowds."
