PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Nearly $10 million in federal funding is flying toward the Peoria International Airport for some major upgrades.

About $7.6 million will come from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, $2.2 million will come from passenger entitlement money, and $56,000 will come from cargo entitlement money.

The boost will go toward a taxiway construction project on Taxiway A (Alpha) that stretches from Dirksen Parkway to Smithville Road. Airport officials want the money to go toward better pavement, reducing the dangers of foreign objects and debris, plus an upgrade to lighting installations.
