BATTLE CREEK, MI — One person was injured in a shooting near Battle Creek Central High School on Monday, Sept. 8, and three area schools were placed on lockdown.
Battle Creek Police officers were dispatched to an area just north of the high school — located at 100 W. Van Buren St. — at around 3 p.m. Monday.
According to a preliminary investigation, a group of individuals in a vehicle and a separate group on foot were engaged in a verbal altercation when an individual fired an undetermined number of rounds, police stated in a news release.
One person was injured as the result of the shooting. Wood TV reports that the person shot was not involved in the confrontation.
Police did not disclose whether the victim was a student at the high school. The individual sustained a non-life-threat
