BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WBOY) — After a lengthy spring featuring a lawsuit surrounding the termination of former Bridgeport City Manager Patrick Ford, the City Council met Monday night to discuss the future of the City Manager position as a whole.

As it stands, Joe Shuttleworth is acting as the interim City Manager, although other options are being considered for the future of the position. Bridgeport Mayor Robert Matheny floated the idea of hiring a city manager from an outside company.

“This method, a city manager could be placed here. They are short-term, and there’s no buyout contract,” Matheny said.

After the departure of Ford, council members said that they're worried that too much of the city's money has been spent paying out contracts.
