Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is hoping that Rob Edwards’ promotion experience can benefit Middlesbrough this season - but is also backing Michael Carrick to make a successful return to management when the time is right.

Michael Carrick was sacked by Boro this summer following a disappointing campaign that saw Boro finish tenth in last season’s Championship. It brought to an end his first management role after two-and-a-half years at the Riverside.

But having seen firsthand at Rockliffe the work that Carrick did at Boro, Hasselbaink is backing the Manchester United legend to bounce back - having experienced the sack as a manager himself and knowing how difficult it can be.
