HUTTONSVILLE, W.Va. (WBOY) — Inmates at Huttonsville Correctional Center are building something small that will have a big impact on hurricane victims in North Carolina and Tennessee.
The West Virginia Schools of Diversion & Transition's facility within Huttonsville Correctional Center has taken on the task of building tiny homes to send to victims of Hurricane Helene through the Tiny Home Relief Project — a nonprofit organization that provides supplies and ships the houses to those in need.
Through its building maintenance and cabinet mill classes, inmates—or in this case students— learn the ins and outs of carpentry, as well as electrical and plumbing installation. Every job, from layout design to installation, is in the hands of the students.
