A farm worker is due to stand trial for murder after spending almost four years on remand for allegedly using a circular saw to cut off another man's leg.
John Yalu, 40, was arrested in February 2022 over the death of Kalman Tal, 66, at Innisfail in Far North Queensland.
It is alleged Mr Tal died at a riverfront park after asking Mr Yalu, a farm worker from Vanuatu, to cut off his leg.
At the Supreme Court in Cairns on Thursday morning, Justice James Henry set the case down for a trial beginning in late January.
Crown prosecutor Nicole Friedewald told the court the trial would take up to two weeks.
Mr Yalu's solicitor, Michael Rodriguez, asked for a trial date no earlier than March so the defence could be represented by barrister Peter Chadwick KC.
"Mr Chadwick is aware of this matte
