YANKTON COUNTY, S.D. (KTIV) - A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car Thursday evening, Sept. 11.

State authorities say a 2022 Tesla was traveling eastbound on S.D. Highway 46, seven miles west of Irene, South Dakota, when the vehicle struck a man walking in the roadway. The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital and was later pronounced dead.

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety released the preliminary crash report the day after the crash, Friday, Sept. 12. Several days later, on Monday, Sept. 15, authorities released the name of the pedestrian, 67-year-old Timothy Cal Nelson, from the town of Yankton.
