EAGAN, Minn. — The immediate future of young quarterback J.J. McCarthy is in doubt.
After suffering a high ankle sprain in the 22-6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, McCarthy is expected to miss some time for the Vikings, starting with the upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Though head coach Kevin O’Connell doesn’t necessarily think McCarthy will be out long term, he also didn’t completely rule out the possibility of him be placed on injured reserve in the short term.
“I do want to see how he responds to treatment this week,” O’Connell said while talking to reporters on Monday afternoon at TCO Performance Center. “I give him a ton of credit for having the toughness to get it taped up and keep playing.”
