SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Parents and students shared concerns over the possibility of the closing of Wilkinson Elementary School to Sarasota County School Board members Tuesday.

The news that the STEM-certified school could close surprised many. “Completely shocked,” said Allie Martin. “We had no idea our school was in jeopardy of closing.”

School board member Bridget Ziegler said she understand their concerns, but points out the school is under 50% capacity. “As a parent, I can completely understand any kind of disruption with your child’s education ... is always heartbreaking,” Ziegler said.
