WESTBROOK, Conn. — The investigations remain ongoing in two unrelated truck crashes just days apart on I-95 in Westbrook , which shut down lanes for hours as crews cleaned up the debris.

The first occurred the morning of Sept. 5 on the southbound side of the highway, near exit 64, according to state police, and left both sides of the road covered in sheets of plywood. A truck driver and a car driver were killed in the crash, identified as Nicholas John Kupec, 39, from Waterford, and Isabella Rose Butzgy, 22, from Oakdale.

Just a mile down the interstate, this Monday, Sept. 15, a metal container fell off a truck and hurled debris across multiple lanes of traffic near exit 65, restricting northbound traffic to just one lane.
