The New Orleans City Council has voted to bring in the legislative auditor to review the city's finances.

The council voted Thursday 6-0, approving the request for the legislative auditor to review the city's finances amid a deficit of $100 million. Councilmember Oliver Thomas was not present for the vote, but was a coauthor of the request.
The call for an audit comes after it was revealed that $70 million of the city's budget deficit accounts for overtime payments to first responders, safety and permits, and the department of public works, as well as a $30 million revenue gap.
