NEWBURGH, Ind. (WEVV) — A student with a gun was detained at Castle High School on Thursday.

A note sent out to parents says "several heroic students notified the administration" that another student "indicated they had a weapon in their backpack."

Officials say the student was detained and that a weapon was seized by law enforcement.

The Warrick County Sheriff's Office confirms that a male student was taken into custody and says there is no threat to the school.

District officials say "it does not appear that the student intended any harm to CHS or its students." They say that since the situation is secure, the school day will continue on regular schedule.

The Sheriff's Office confirmed that the weapon that was seized was a firearm.

No other details were immediately released.
