Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky’s pick as the new chairman of the city’s Budget Review Commission will not be taking the position.

She named Mountainside Fitness Centers founder Tom Hatten the successor to David Smith for the position on Sept. 26. However, Hatten said on Sept. 28 that he will not take the position.

“(I) would love to help but (it’s) just not the right timing for me,” Hatten wrote in a text message to the Daily Independent.

He added, “(I) Really think it was more about leadership and direction. Becoming wiser at my age and managing all previous commitments.”

Borowsky did not return a request for comment.

The next Budget Review Commission meeting is 10 a.m., Oct. 1.
