DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – To mark the beginning of Fire Prevention Week, the Durham Fire Department is warning about the improper disposal of lithium batteries.

The fire department said two solid waste trucks have caught fire since June due to lithium batteries being thrown away.

Firefighters said people can recycle their devices or batteries at a safe recycling location.

The department also said people can also help by purchasing only listed products, charging devices safely, and recycling batteries responsibly.
