Approximately 6,000 Post Offices nationwide could face permanent closure following a recently proposed overhaul. This development follows the government's conclusion of its Future of Post Office consultation yesterday (October 6).

The consultation aimed to examine ways to 'strengthen' the broader Post Office network. Nevertheless, it indicated that over 50% of the 11,500 Post Office branches throughout the nation have become financially unviable.

Three categories of branches might face the greatest threat - including those situated in rural villages and those running on a part-time schedule. Branches that share their premises with other businesses or services could also face closure.
