SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The City of San Angelo City Council voted 7-0 to approve new license plate readers, drones and cameras for SAPD in a meeting on Oct. 7.

Police Chief Travis Griffith spoke to the board about what the agreement is and how the police department will use the funds given. The total cost of the program is $309,050, leaving the department responsible for roughly $76,000 after grants.

Griffith stated that the drones bought from the grant will help the SAPD to provide real-time information to officers in the field and supervisors to provide faster responses.

"The fact here would be able to get a bird's eye view on a major crime within about 45 seconds," Griffith said.
