TOWN OF CLINTON – Police have identified the motorcycle rider who struck a horse while traveling on Route 9G in the Town of Clinton early Tuesday.

Troopers said the incident occurred around 4:15 a.m. near North Creek Road as the biker, identified as Craig Butler, 48, of Staatsburg, was traveling northbound on Route 9G when it struck the animal in the roadway.

Butler was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The horse also died from injuries as a result of the impact, police said.
