McCLELLANVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) - Lowcountry Land Trust secured a historic area going into the Town of McClellanville, protecting its rural character.
Nearly 14 acres off Highway 17 and North Pinckney Street are conserved for generations to come. The historic, scenic entrance will welcome residents and visitors alike keeping it undeveloped, or virtually remaining the same.
"Those of us who have been here all our lives, we like it the way it is and we want it to stay that way," Rutledge Leland, mayor of McClellanville, said.
The property had previously been farmland and timberland. Leland told News 2, it also served as the original entryway during the plantation era from those living on River Road across the way. In recent years, developers looked at it for a potential site for locating thei
