PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. (WSAZ) - After receiving $34 million in federal grant funding, the City of Portsmouth was getting ready to use that money for several projects.

One of those projects being to redevelop their riverfront by removing sections of the old flood wall in town and creating steps down to the water.

Those plans were put on hold after concern was raised by members of the community that removing those sections of old flood wall could be a safety concern for those living close to the water.

One concerned resident is taking action into his own hands and creating a petition on behalf of the people living just outside of that old flood wall.

“There’s no one more excited for this riverfront project, but not at the expense of the people’s safety in this part of the city,” Herman Morgan
