A man sexually assaulted a sleeping woman after a heavy drinking session on New Years Eve.

Mark Howard, 37, had guzzled 19 cans of lager, as well as champagne and rum, during the gathering on December 31 last year.

Later, after the woman fell asleep on the sofa, he placed his genitals on her face before telling her: “That’s because of the disrespect you’ve shown me… you deserve it.”

At Manchester Crown Court, Howard was handed a community order and placed onto the Sex Offenders register after admitting sexual assault.

Eleanor Gleeson, prosecuting, said that Howard had been at the woman’s home from around 2pm. They were drinking, along with the woman’s husband. She cannot be identified for legal reasons.
