The Valparaiso City Council voted on Monday to approve the $105 million 2026 Valparaiso Community Schools (VCS) budget and to advance the city's own spending plan.
Unlike in most Indiana municipalities, Valparaiso's city council has final say over the school district's budgets. The VCS board gave its own approval to the budget in August, and the item received first reading approval from the city council on Sep. 22.
The school district's budget includes a planned raise of between 2.5% and 3% for VCS employees.
The city council also approved a first reading of the city's own budget and salary ordinance during the Monday meeting.
