KINGSTON, Tenn. (WVLT) - For some families, the dream of having a baby of their own doesn’t come easy. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

Arrows in the Sky, a nonprofit based in Kingston, said one in four parents will experience the death of a child during pregnancy, infancy or early childhood. It’s a statistic Co-Founder and Executive Director Tamara Martin knows all too well.

“My husband and I found ourselves saying, ‘hey, let’s have babies.’ All of our friends have babies. We’re at that stage of life. So we found ourselves pregnant. We were so excited. All of our friends were excited,” Martin said. “Shortly after, we found that we had lost our baby. We heard the very heavy and silent words, ‘I’m sorry, but there’s no longer a heartbeat.’”
