ASHEBORO, N.C. — Asheboro Police released a video showing three drivers passing a stopped Asheboro City school bus after its flashing arm was deployed. Officials say 11 students were on the bus at the time, none of them were injured.
In North Carolina, passing a school bus is a Class 1 Misdemeanor. Carrying a minimum fine of $500. If convicted, you could also lose your license for a year and serve 120 days in jail.
Fines and penalties begin to elevate once a driver hits a victim. The minimum fine raised to $1,250 and the driver can serve up to 2 years in jail.
And if the incident results in death, the fine doubles to $2,500 and the driver can serve upwards of 3 years in jail.
