FORT YATES, N.D. (KMOT/KFYR) – A Fort Yates man faces federal murder and arson charges in a fatal fire earlier this year on the Standing Rock Reservation.

According to court records, a grand jury returned an indictment against Maleique Walks for two counts of felony murder within indian country and one count of arson.

Details are limited, but the indictment accuses Walks of intentionally starting a Fort Yates residence on fire on July 24.

A federal judge ordered Walks be detained. He has a court appearance set for Nov. 18, and a jury trial scheduled for Dec. 9.
