PHOENIX — Arizona State University has a new medical school and it just received two important updates to help accelerate the preparation for its first class in August 2026.
University officials announced the school, now known as the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering, received preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
The school also received a "nine-figure gift" to help establish and operate the programs, officials said. It's the second-largest in university history.
“While it is something we expected, accreditation is not to be taken lightly. We are grateful to the LCME and to our team that has been working tirelessly to help make that happen,” said ASU President Michael Crow.
