At about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a shooting near Southeast 174th Avenue and Haig Street and found a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the torso, according to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau.
The victim was taken to the hospital; his injuries are not life-threatening, police said.
The intersection the shooting occurred near is one block away from Powell Butte Elementary School and Centennial High School.
Police identified the suspect as a 16-year-old boy who lives in Portland. Thursday, they arrested him on allegations of unlawful possession of a firearm and seized a handgun. He is in custody at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center. Police said additional charges are possible.
