MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - Republic Services is disputing claims made by the city of Murfreesboro about violations at Middle Point Landfill, saying the city has exaggerated and sometimes falsely reported issues.

The dispute comes as the city has received its 4,000th odor complaint about the landfill since launching an online portal for residents to report issues. Mayor Shane McFarland said complaints have come from residents five to seven miles away from the facility.

Rob LaTourette, area president overseeing the landfill for the past year, said communication between the company and the city has broken down.

“There was a time when there was trust and open communication,” LaTourette said. “As of late, though, no.”
