A Wrexham source has said that the former Republic of Ireland international acted in self-defence after coming under attack.
Investigations are currently ongoing to establish how Cardiff fans accessed the car park ahead used by Wrexham stars.
However, McClean has since confirmed in a statement to talkSPORT that it was a confrontation that wasn't reported to the police.
