COLUMBUS — Legislation prohibiting certain health care organizations that provide abortion services from receiving Medicaid reimbursements would exacerbate the health care provider shortage in the Toledo area, Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio says.
“Lucas County has a shortage of general practice providers already and cannot afford a reduction in available and accessible providers,” Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio spokesman Lucy Carradine said. “The PPGOH Toledo health center operates in both an area that is a designated medically underserved population and is currently experiencing a primary care health care shortage. There are no other providers that can fill the gap if PPGOH were to be defunded from Medicaid reimbursements for all health care services.”
