SHREVEPORT, La. -- Raises could be on the way for Shreveport employees next year, but there's a difference in the amount when it comes to police officers.

Mayor Tom Arceneaux is proposing a 5% raise for Shreveport police officers and firefighters -- 3% in addition to their annual 2%.

But in a separate resolution going before the City Council on Friday, District B Councilman Gary Brooks has singled out police officers for a 10% base pay adjustment. The raise is proposed to aid in retention and recruitment within SPD.

Brooks wants the raise effective Jan. 1.

The City Council will take up the resolution -- in addition to other proposed budget items -- in a meeting set for 3 p.m. Friday . The administrative and regular meetings are combined because of next week's holiday schedule.
