The DWP has issued a warning that millions of people will not qualify for a £25 payment. However, people in Scotland may actually get more than this through a similar schemes. The DWP issues several payments during the colder months, including the Cold Weather Payment.
This payment is triggered when temperatures in a specific region drop below zero, or are forecast to do so, for seven consecutive days. The scheme operates from November through to the end of March the following year, and payments can be triggered multiple times in an area.
You can get these cash payments if you claim certain benefits and meet other qualifying criteria. However, the payments are quite specific as they depend on the forecast from the local weather station for your postcode.
