LAGRANGE, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A wanted man armed with a machete was shot by a LaGrange officer overnight after police tried to take him into custody, the department said.

According to police, officers were trying to make contact with Cody Parker, who was walking on Laurel Lane, just after midnight Tuesday. Police say Parker had “multiple felony warrants for his arrest.”

Parker allegedly refused to obey the officers’ commands and ran away. More officers tried to block his path but couldn’t, as police say he had the machete and constantly reached into his waistband, saying “he was going to shoot the pursuing officers.”
