LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Jamaica may be 1,500 miles away from Louisville, but the impact of Hurricane Melissa could be felt here as people were moved to help.
From her Jamaican restaurant at the corner of Third and Broadway, Janice Clarke had to wait a long agonizing week to find out that her sisters, living in the path of hurricane Melissa, had survived.
In that first emotional phone call, she offered words of hope.
“And she was just crying,” Clarke said. “And I’m like, you know, take it easy. We’ll get it going. We’ll bounce back.”
Clarke’s next thought was to find a way to help not just her family, but to bring relief to others as well.
