When Dave and Nan Kirlin moved from New Jersey to Gastonia in the 1980s, Nan had an 18 month old baby and no local support system.

So, in order to build connections in the city, she started volunteering at the Schiele Museum, and over several decades, what started as a way to find community evolved into a life of service.
