PHOENIX — A Valley school district will be cutting more than 160 jobs in the upcoming school year due to budget constraints.

The Phoenix Union High School District voted 5 to 1 during a meeting on Dec. 4 to eliminate 164 positions next year.

Among the 164 jobs on the cut list, the positions include assistant principals, bookstore assistants, literary coach, director of professional development, computer lab assistants, campus testing coordinators, media technicians, custodians, and office assistants.

"The preliminary list of reduction-in-force positions was developed through a comprehensive review process that included data collected through Budget Committee surveys and was in alignment with Budget Committee priorities and recommendations," district records state.
