ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A social media post circulating in recent days claims that BJC Healthcare “revokes” parents’ access to their child’s medical information when the child turns 12. The post has prompted concern among parents and has led Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway to review the matter.

A BJC spokesperson tells First Alert 4 that the post involves MyChart, the patient-portal platform used by BJC and Washington University physicians, along with hundreds of other health systems nationwide. MyChart is developed by Epic Systems Corporation, which confirms it does not set access rules and does not determine what parents or minors can view. In a statement, Epic said:

“Epic (the developer of MyChart) does not determine parental access to children’s medical records.
