TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A new first-of-its-kind sobering facility in Pima County will open early next year.
The medically supported space will provide treatment and an overnight stay for individuals experiencing substance use disorder.
The pilot program is yet another effort by the county to address the opioid crisis.
In November, Pima County Supervisors awarded $1.8 million in opioid settlement funds to Community Bridges to establish the Sobering Alternative to Recovery (SAFR) Center at their existing facility off 250 South Toole Avenue.
Pima County Health Department Director Dr. Theresa Cullen said the facility will have 15 overnight beds where people experiencing a substance use crisis can be connected to treatment and recovery resources.
Medical professionals will be available
