AVON LAKE, Ohio — Avon Lake City Council has approved the purchase of the former Erieview Elementary School, clearing the way for the building to be transformed into a new community center.
Council passed the ordinance during its Dec. 8 meeting, authorizing Mayor Mark Spaetzel to enter into an agreement with the Avon Lake City School District for the property at 32630 Electric Boulevard.
The site includes the former school building and 9.48 acres of land.
The district closed Erieview Elementary at the end of the 2024–2025 school year as part of a broader consolidation plan aimed at reducing operating costs. The school originally opened in 1951.
According to a press release from Avon Lake, the city will purchase the property for $500,000, paid in five annual installments of $100,000.
