NEWPORT, Vt. (WCAX) - A former Northeast Kingdom hospital employee has denied embezzling thousands of dollars.
Eric Dupuis, 34, of Irasburg, pleaded not guilty this week to two counts of embezzlement.
Dupuis was the maintenance supervisor at North Country Hospital in Newport and was fired two years ago for performance issues and concerns about his expense reimbursements.
After a yearlong investigation, police said Dupuis falsified invoices, overbilled on-call pay and requested reimbursement for items that were returned or where the order was canceled. The total amount came out to more than $163,000.
Dupuis was fired in December 2023 and then got a job at Copley Hospital, but he is no longer employed there.
He was released on conditions.
