INDEPENDENCE, Iowa — The Independence Community School District elementary schools are currently on secure status due to a police presence nearby. The secure status began Monday afternoon.
No one is allowed to enter or leave the schools or the district office at this time. There is no danger to students, according to the Independence school district administration office.
It's not yet clear what triggered the police response.
Dismissal typically occurs at 3:15 p.m., but there is no word yet on any changes to this schedule.
