CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 28-year-old man was charged with possession of a firearm on city property after police allegedly found him with a handgun at a CATS light rail platform.

Thomas Eldho Paul was arrested Sept. 16 and charged with a misdemeanor, according to court documents. Authorities said Paul was carrying a black Glock 19 9mm pistol at the light rail platform at 1821 Camden Road, the same area where 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska was killed and where her memorial currently lies .

Paul was initially held on a $5,000 unsecured bond but appeared in court Sept. 17, where a judge modified his release terms. The bond was reduced to $2,500, but changed to a secured bond.

As a condition of his release, Paul is banned from all Charlotte Area Transit System property until Sept. 30, unless ordered
