CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 27-year-old security guard is facing charges after shooting a customer during an altercation at a University City 7-Eleven, according to court documents.
Robert Anthony Santiago was arrested Friday following the Sept. 18 shooting at the convenience store at 9608 University City Blvd. The victim, Taio Smalls, sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand.
According to the arrest report, Santiago was working as an armed security guard for 7-Eleven when he got into a heated argument with Smalls in the parking lot around 9:30 p.m.
Santiago told police that Smalls refused to leave the property after being asked multiple times. He said the argument escalated when Smalls picked up an unbroken glass bottle and charged at him from approximately 8-10 feet away, prompting Santiago
