MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Farm runoff is polluting the waters of Upper Bayou Lafourche—and ULM is stepping in to help fix it.
The University of Louisiana Monroe has received a $134,299 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to study water quality in the Bayou Lafourche watershed.
The project is a partnership with the Gulf of Mexico Alliance and the Morehouse Soil & Water Conservation District.
Dr. Kevin Baer, Professor of Toxicology and Interim Director of the School of Basic Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Sciences, says the goal is to track how agricultural runoff, like fertilizers and sediment affects local waterways and to see if improvements can be made.
