RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A North Carolina family is pushing for change after a terrifying moment on the baseball field nearly ended their son’s life.

He collapsed during practice, later learning it was because of a hidden heart condition that could’ve been detected with one extra test.

"I was doing my bullpen on the field. Then, I felt my heart start ramping up,” said Karter Bossman, student at UNC Charlotte.

Bossman was living his dream, playing baseball and hoping to one day play in college when everything changed in an instant. He passed out last year, during his junior year at Clayton high school.

“My dad picked me up and I was unconscious at the time. When I got to the emergency room, I was in cardiac arrest at that point and I was told I wasn’t breathing for around four minutes,” s
