A major BART train service disruption between the Hayward and Berryessa stations was caused by suspected vandalism that damaged wayside equipment, preventing trains from safely operating, according to officials with the transit agency. The discovery came after BART officials earlier clarified that the disruption was not related to a computer network issue as messages from their system initially reported, but due to damaged trackside equipment. Green line trains from Daly City are turning back at the Bay Fair station, and Orange line trains from Richmond are stopping at the Hayward station. Riders were urged to alternate transportation until repairs are complete. Crews are now working to repair the system, but BART does not yet have an estimated time for restoring full service.
