GREENBELT, Md. — The Berwyn Heights police department says one of its officers was struck while assisting a disabled vehicle in Greenbelt Friday night.

According to police, the driver was in the center lane in the 6300 block of Greenbelt Road when they arrived at the scene.

They say a vehicle in the right lane struck the officer, just before the intersection with Kenilworth Avenue.

The officer was taken to a local hospital. Police do not believe his injuries are life threatening.

The driver remained at the scene. Investigators have not indicated whether the driver will be charged with a crime.

The Greenbelt police department is leading the investigation into the incident.
