SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — After nearly two years without functioning elevators, tenants at Jenny Lind Apartments are finally seeing progress.

Work began Tuesday, Sept. 2, on two elevators at the complex, which provides affordable housing for low-income residents, seniors, and people with disabilities.

“This is the start of the process that will get both elevators in working order for residents,” said Martin Gugel, director of building services. He said repairs are expected to take nine to twelve weeks.

Amy Moreau, a tenant, said she’s been bringing the issue in front of city council.

For tenants like Moreau, who lives on the sixth floor, the delays have been difficult. “It stinks. I’m using my cane again because of my back and knees,” she said.
